A Year In Review 2015

Published on 3 January 2016

Another year of ABBA shows done and dusted and what a year 2015 was!

The band kicked off 2015 at the Cairndale Hotel & Leisure Club in Dumfries, traditionally the first of many ABBA shows here throughout a typical year. Next-up was the first of four 2015 ABBA dates at The River Rooms in Stourbridge. If ever you get the chance do pay this music venue a visit – great staff and crowd. Mid January and the band were off to Norfolk and ABBA Night at the Mercure Hotel in Norwich, again the first of four dates here during the year.

Additional highlights earlier in the year included party nights in County Durham, Birmingham and corporate shows for the Mayor of Carlisle and Baxters at a rather posh hotel in Edinburgh.

In April the band were back in Cumbria to present ABBA – Sing It Out Loud, the fully interactive theatre show which, with on-screen lyrics, the audience are the stars. Thanks to everyone who supported this show – we have many fond memories.

In mid June the band were invited to an event in North Yorkshire. The event in question was to celebrate the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo. How apt then Swede Dreamz band members found themselves on a stage in a huge marquee at Waterloo Farm surrounded by guests in their Napoleon, ABBA or 70’s fancy dress outfits. Sadly, the band couldn’t hang around as they were appearing at Cumbria Pride in Carlisle city centre the following day.

Towards the end of June we launched our sister seven-piece Thank ABBA For The Music UK theatre show at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington. Check-out the website at www.thankabbaforthemusic.co.uk for further show information, forthcoming UK theatre dates, etc.

Keswick Mid-Summer Festival was calling at the end of June and the band had a super (trouper) of a time belting out ABBA hit after ABBA hit in a 90-minute show across the town centre. We can now confirm the band have already been booked to appear again in 2016!

July was certainly a month of travelling with shows in Blandford Forum in Dorset, Blackpool and Northumberland as well as Crail Festival in Fife, Appleby Carnival and a sell-out Thank ABBA For The Music theatre show in Hornchurch, Essex.

August 2015 and Swede Dreamz band members were in Manchester to help IKEA celebrate everything about the crayfish! Thankfully the rain held-off at Atherstone’s Summer In The Square in Warwickshire towards the end of the month which became another highlight for the band.

September, October and November included various hotel party nights and holiday parks throughout the UK plus the occasional wedding. Highlights included our first ABBA show at Lockerbie Town Hall (wonderful audience) and filming for new Channel 5 ABBA documentary.

December 2015 was rather manic with back-to-back Christmas shows in Worcester, Birmingham, Southport, West Thurrock, Dumfries, Sunderland, Penrith, Horton (Northumberland), Lowestoft and Dundee. Add to this Huddersfield (filming for the BBC's Happy Valley with the lovely Sarah Lancashire) and a corporate show on-board a floating restaurant in the very heart of Moscow!

So, that was 2015. Thank you to everyone who has supported Swede Dreamz ABBA tribute band, not only during 2015 but from the very start. We really wouldn’t be where we are now without the support and commitment from our many clients and agents.

We have lots of exciting shows and events coming up in 2016 and we’re delighted to be working with our regular clients again including the River Rooms in Stourbridge, the Great Barr Hotel in Birmingham, the Cairndale Hotel & Leisure Centre in Dumfries, Stanwix Park Holiday Centre in Cumbria and the Mercure Hotel in Norwich to mention but a few. And if that’s not quite enough, Thank ABBA For The Music, our sister seven-piece UK theatre show complete with live band, video projection, embarks on a string of UK theatre dates.

So, that’s 2015 all done and dusted. Thank you again to everyone for your support and here’s to an equally fabbatastic 2016 and beyond …
